I discovered this manga a few days ago. It was a good read. Then, I discovered it was originally a light novel. Luckily I found some translations in the internet.
Summary:
Violette was sent to prison after trying to kill her half-sister, Maryjun, for jealousy. Due to depression and poor conditions in prison, Violette died.
Only... to wake up again in her room! Realizing that everything repeated, she decides to change her fate--- by becoming a nun in the future!
As the story progresses, we figure that Violette is actually nice. She was just driven to jealousy because of her awful past. Violette's mother was madly in love with her father. Unfortunately, her father doesn't give a fig about her mother. He lived with his mistress and raised another daughter (Maryjun) with her. Adding to this, Violette's mother became crazy. She dressed Violette like the duke and demanded she acts like him. When Violette grew up, her mother figured that she can't be the duke and succumbed to depression which ultimately led to her death.
Then, just after her mother's death, her shitty father married the mistress and brought his family into the ducal house! He showed clear favoritisim towards Maryjun and treated Violette like a nuisance. What's more, Maryjun gain the love of Violette's crush-- the prince... So she became jealous and tried to kill Maryjun.
So, as to not to die... Violette decided that she wants nothing to do with Maryjun and her family. She would be distant to the prince. In short, she didn't care about anything anymore. She was just waiting for a chance to enter the convent! Maryjun who was clueless about Violette and how their father treats her, decides to become close to Violette.
HOWEVER, this aloofness and sudden change in attitude made the prince like her. The prince tried to show affection (granting her a seat in his opera box, inviting her to talk) Violette showed disinterest. The prince who was not used to this (Violette was very clingy before), started developing feelings for her. All the while, Violette was helping Maryjun gain favor with the prince.
Then, we see Violette's close friends. Yulan was the prince's half brother from the king's prostitute. He protects Violette from everything and tells the stupid prince not to involve Violette. Then let's not forget Violette's maid who supports her whenever Violette is treated like crap by her family. We start to see that Violette is actually a nice and kind person!
Review:
The manga/LN is still ongoing. Slowly, we see more of Violette's past. There is also some shadowing that Yulan might know that this is Violette's second chance. I have read the manga and LN repeatedly. I fell in love with Violette more and more as her past unraveled.
She is still a sophisticated lady. I hope she would be happy in the end. I want her stupid father to suffer too! I also want to see how Maryjun would react when she figures out Violette's suffering (that due to their father's doting on her, Violette suffered).
Rating: 5/5 I like the fact that in the first part Violette was portrayed as a rich spoiled brat but then we figure out how crappy her past was!
